Former Speaker, Patricia Etteh is currently being drilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC over alleged contract scam in Akwa Ibom State.

The ex-Speaker, dependable sources disclosed, is presently under the custody of the Commission, whose agents were said to be grilling her over her alleged involvement in a solar power electrification project scam in Akwa Ibom State. The details of the scam allegedly financed by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC have not been disclosed.

Etteh was allegedly arrested by EFCC operatives on Tuesday in Abuja over the N240 million NDDC contract scam.

Reports have it that Patricia Etteh is the first and as at now only female Speaker of the House of Representatives. She was elected in June 2007 but was removed few months later amid allegations of a contract scam in the leadership of the House.

Meanwhile, the arrest of
Patricia Etteh by the EFCC over the alleged NDDC contract scam came as a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, its national chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, national secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC among others to ensure that only those who emerged as delegates in the ad-hoc delegates election monitored by INEC in Edo State partake in the party primaries to choose candidates for the various elective political offices.

The order was made by Justice I. E. Ekwo on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 and was upon an exparte motion brought by some of the special delegates on the behalf of others.
