The Nigeria media has declared it will give the Super Eagles the necessary support needed for them to win the AFCON 20221 which kicks off this weekend in Cameroon.

The chairman Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), FCT Chapter, Bunmi Haruna made this assertion on behalf of the sports journalists in a goodwill message to the Eagles at a send forth ceremony organised by the federal government for the team at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja Tuesday night.

Haruna, who is also a CAF license B football coach, urged the coach Augustine Eguavoen-led team to go and make Nigerians proud in Cameroon.

“The Nigeria media is solidly behind you, we believe you have what it takes to make Nigerians proud,” Haruna said.

“We will criticize you when needed, but it will be positive to ensure you deliver on the mandate given to you by President Buhari.

“Go out there and make us proud, Nigerians never forget those who make them happy, they will surely reward you even to generations to come.”

He also commended the minister of Sports and Youth Development Sunday Dare for organising the first ever sent forth ceremony for the national team, the Super Eagles in over 30 years.

“This send forth is a sign of encouragement and is capable of spurring the Super Eagles’ players to greater heights”, Bunmi Haruna remarked.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) were also congratulated over the fact that, of the the final Super Eagles 28-man squad are 17 players that graduated from the youth teams.

“This is the first time our Super Eagles team would have players that graduated from the national junior cadre. It’s a sign of real development in our football”, Haruna added.

The Super Eagles are in group D of the AFCON alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
