The continental football governing body, CAF has given the approval of Abuja’s Moshood Abiola National Stadium to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to host FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana in March.

Sports Minister, Sunday Dare through his Special Assistant, Toyin Ibitoye, disclosed this yesterday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Ibitoye also said both Super Falcons Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier and Falconets World Cup qualifier, would be played on same pitch which was recently renovated under the Public-Private partnership initiative.

The approval was sequel to the stadium assessment and inspection process conducted by CAF, and has however advised that the inspection comments and remarks to be addressed in the coming period by the NFF, in order to guarantee that the stadium is maintained in the list of CAF approved stadiums for senior competitions.

Among other aspects mentioned in the CAF report, “the stadium management is requested to ensure that the playing surface area, flood light and the dressing rooms are brought up to the required level to host this important match. We appreciate your contribution in helping us raise the level of African football with facilities as we continue to gain exposure to a global audience”, said CAF’s Raul Chipenda, Development Director in the letter dated February 3, 2022.

The letter also emphasised that, the approved stadium will be set as the venue to host the match Nigeria Vs. Ghana related to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 African qualifiers playoff round at the
