First Bank Basketball team and the Nigeria Customs would slug it out in the final of the Mark D Ball Championships, which holds Saturday at the Indoor Hall of Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja.
The bankers, fondly called the Elephant Girls, had out dunked Kada Angels in the first semifinal before the Customs clinically clinched the second ticket after defeating hard fighting Sunshine Angels in the second semifinal that was action packed from the first quarter.
“It was hard work that earned us the ticket to the final. And against the First Bank in the final, we will approach the game squarely. It’s going to be a big fight”, said Sam Onikeku, the Secretary of the Nigeria Sports Teams.
Remarkably, Sunshine drew the first blood and shot into the lead until in the third quarter that the Customs levelled at 42-42.
The tension soaked encounter saw coach Scott Nnaji of the Nigeria Customs constantly calling for time-out to enable him give his players pep-talks, which perhaps paid off in the 61-54 victory for his team to book the final ticket against the Elephant Girls.
