NPC Signs MoU With NIPOST On Digitization Of Postcode System

The National Population Commission, NPC and the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in inter-agency collaboration to ensure the digitization of the Postcode system in Nigeria. The MoU signed Friday in Abuja, is aimed at proper addressing project in Nigeria.

While briefing the Press at the signing ceremony, Chairman NPC, Hon Nasir Isa Kwarra stated that the design of the Nigeria Postcode System project will make it possible for the country to have a proper digital addressing system that will facilitate economic, political and physical development.

He disclosed that the Commission is delighted to share its data set as primary data for the creation of the postcode area, postcode districts and other entities and to design a digitalized postcode framework to facilitate the sorting and transmission of mails delivery and improve national addressing standard.

In his remarks, Postmaster-General/ CEO, Nigerian Postal Service, Dr Ismail Adebayo Adewusi noted that NIPOST is seriously committed to solving most of the national addressing needs of the country through the postcode system.

The Surveyor-General of the Federation, Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin through his representative, called for the harmonization of digital data in Nigeria.

The National EAD Data Coordinator of NPC, Mrs Foluke Adebayo made a presentation on the delineation and geo-coding of postcode areas in Nigeria while Dr Thomas Ali Gaga of NIPOST delivered a general overview of the postcode.

The Technical Partner of NIPOST, Mr Taslim Salaudeen also presented a graphic illustration of postcode used cases at the event.

However, the NPC Chairman and the Postmaster-General/CEO of NIPOST presented Basic GIS Certificate to the 23 certified participants.
