There is a new wave of street terrorism in Lagos Mainland, as armed ragamuffins dot all major bus-stops, corners and junctions harassing and extorting money and violently seizing handsets and wristwatches from affluent-looking young boys, Page3news.com.ng reports.
It was understood that mostly teens are the target with passers-by and people around turning a blind eye to the criminalities.
A victim at Aguda, Surulere, while narrating his ordeal, said he was even asked to transfer money from his handset.
According to reports the long stretch of canal from Cele Church to Pako bus-stop in Aguda is always filled by these bandits in their large number at any time of the day.
Dependable sources hinted that policemen from Aguda and Ijesha police stations come daily to a certain point along the canal to collect “returns” (‘roja’ in local parlance) and look the other way.
“Reporting the hooligans to them (police) is a waste of time”, one of the sources said as he expressed that Lagos certainly is becoming something else. “Very soon, these urchins would be stopping every pedestrian and forcefully demanding money and personal effects”, he stated.
It was gathered that the Mile2 to Iyana-Iba is more dangerous for ladies with handbags, as these bandits forcefully snatches their with uniform police men watching and wait to collect their ‘returns’ from the operation.
