Former Chairman Gombe Football Association, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe has hit hard on the appointment of Jose Peseiro as the new Super Eagles’ coach saying the team is far greater than the Portuguese.
Gara Gombe lashes out that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF should not reduce the Super Eagles’ job as a ground for failed destitute.
He made the remarks while reacting on a national television interview.
Gombe said, “the commercial value of the Super Eagles is far higher than this Jose Peseiro that is hired to coach the team.
“He has no impressive records for the job of handling the Super Eagles. His past records was about 70%/75% failure. He has never been a successful coach to be handed the Super Eagles’ job.
“After the exit of failed Gernot Rohr, one had expected the NFF to go for a high profile coach as his replacement and not this failed Jose Peseiro. This is like assigning a danfo driver the role of piloting an airplane. It can’t work, it’s not possible. The Super Eagles is far higher than the man contracted to manage it”, said the Chief Executive Officer of Mega Mix Group.
According to him, the the only period the NFF got it right in the hiring of manager for the Super Eagles recently, was the appointment of Clemens Westerhoof, whose impact was seen in the team in Tunisia 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and the USA ’94 FIFA World Cup. “We then had a good entertaining and tactical team”.
He however expressed that the NFF never had a development programme for the Eagles, but coaches for competition.
