The federal government as well as the National Assembly have been advised not to succumb to the pressure of legalising gay marriage in Nigeria.
This came from some Clerics at the 16th edition of St. Patrick Archdiocesan Feast Day Celebration and Cultural Fiesta and launching of N70 million for community bus.
The event was organised by the St. Patrick Edo/Delta Catholic Community, Holy Rosary Parish, Wuse, Abuja.
Addressing newsmen at the event, Bishop of Uromi Diocese, Donatus Ogun, said homosexuality stands against God’s plan of creation.
According to him, “Naturally, homosexuality is contrary to the divine plan. Homosexuality for many reasons opposes God’s plan because it doesn’t lead to procreation.
“When God created man and woman, he said be fruitful and multiply. To multiply is one of the vocations of the human person. The supposed orientation of people going after the same sex, is not part of God’s plan.
“I think personally we are managing a crisis of global economy, those who call themselves the bigger economies, are trying to manipulate the poorer nations.
“If someone says he or she is attracted to the same sex, how come they have to teach you to be attracted to the same sex? You see chickens, they don’t run after the same sex. You don’t see two male goats run after themselves.
“How come humans that are rationale and even have the image of God are the ones that are begging to have this. It is unAfrican and it does not promote the intention of God regarding procreation, that is the first.
“Let us not be over analytical, God has made male and female and the best form of copulation still remains between man and woman.
“Europeans, have with all due respect, tried everyway to see how they can control population. So Africans are wiser than that and we have a choice in this matter.”
Speaking in the same vein, Rev. Fr. Caleb Francis said, “When we talk about this issue, we don’t need a prophet to tell us, from creation God made man and woman.
“I don’t think Nigeria will ever legislate an institution like marriage between a man and man or a woman and woman, that day will never come.
“The National Assembly cannot even bring an Act that will encourage that, it’s against our common humanity.”
On the significance of the event, the President, St. Patrick Edo/Delta, Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, Brother Valentine Ezulu, said St. Patrick made major contributions to Edo and Delta states.
He said, “St. Patrick played a major role in the development of Edo Deltans starting from the era of the Mid-west to the time of old Bendel state and to the current Edo and Delta States.
“The Irish have played a significant role in propagating not only Christendom but the Catholicism.”
On his part, Chairman, Planning Committee for the 2024 St. Patrick Archdiocesan Feast, Dr Paul Ihensekhien, said, “We had to do this event to thank God for bringing us this far and for the many more things He’s going to do for us many more years ahead.
“There are over 49 parishes here and the donation is meant for us to buy a bus for the St. Patrick members of Holy Rosary.”
